Call first

Before you do anything else, call San Juan Family Dentistry at (949) 240-6888 and describe what happened. We keep room in the schedule for urgent visits, and knowing what to expect lets us prepare before you arrive.

A knocked-out tooth

Time matters more here than with any other dental injury. Pick the tooth up by the crown, never the root. Rinse it gently in water without scrubbing. If you can, place it back in the socket and hold it there. If you cannot, keep it in milk and bring it with you.

A broken or cracked tooth

Rinse your mouth with warm water and use a cold compress on the outside of your face to control swelling. Keep any pieces of the tooth. Avoid chewing on that side until we have seen you.

A lost filling or crown

This is uncomfortable rather than dangerous, but the exposed tooth is vulnerable. Keep the crown if you still have it, avoid very hot or cold food and drink, and call us for an appointment.

Swelling or severe pain

Swelling in the gum, face or jaw can point to an infection that will not clear on its own. Do not wait it out. If you also have trouble breathing or swallowing, or the injury goes beyond the mouth, go to the nearest emergency room first.

What we do when you arrive

Dr. Leila Khamsei will assess the problem, relieve pain, take digital X-rays where needed, and explain your options before starting treatment. Many emergencies can be resolved in a single visit.
